Dancing to the Moon
A poem about growing up with Autism in a conversation with the Moon.

Last night I gazed upon the sky And found a long lost friend A face unchanged unlike my own There watching me again
Then hugged me close and closed my eyes And backwards did descend Through the years of life with her And smiles warmed me again
And when the moon began to smile Shined light beneath the gray Glowing in the midnight mist From a hurried blink away
And all around, those shining friends Lift high, show me the way As each one glows as quick as light Like words of love will stay
Then quick as dreams fall in the night Stars vanished from my gaze Inside my spirit gives and sways And holds my heart at bay
And finding me alone just then Words spoken by my friend I winked at her through looking glass And heard these words begin…
“And ’til there is, and ‘till I can I see but cannot say So alone we’ll sit us two In our hidden milky way”
”And if there come a chance When I look into your room? See life remain with happiness And your world is right and true”
”And all the world is dancing A dance that knows no fear A dance that leaves no chances But smiles from ear to ear”
”And if I cannot find you there Dancing in your room I’ll find you somewhere dancing Dancing to the moon…”
