Poem: To Be Truly Free
I walked like I was free until I looked back. down at my feet, I was held still.
still by the love I gave and took, by need and want, by like and despise.
I wriggled and writhed, to break free, to see what comes next.
When the struggle stopped, I felt free. I only had to see it, then I was free.
Now I could walk, but there was nowhere to go. If I didn’t want it, there was nothing to get.
If there wasn’t love, there was nothing to give and take. With no ambition, there was no hope and plan, No need for perfection.
I know that when I want, I can be free. I only have to picture it, I would be there.
Freedom wasn’t a place to go. It was a dream, to see it once had sufficed. to know that it exists, was the freedom I sought.
