Plogging — The Way Swedish Are Trying to Save their Environment
And why you should follow them too.

Did you know that Plogging is the latest fitness craze in Sweden?
If you don’t know, plogging is the contraction of two words — plocka upp (Swedish for ‘picking up’) and jogging.
For a few years, Swedish joggers have been trying to clean their environment while jogging. And this is how they are doing it — they carry a bag while jogging, and whenever they encounter any trash, they stop and collect it in the bag and continue running.
This trash picking and jogging, I mean Plogging, has become a great fitness craze among Swedish people. It’s also getting popularity in the US, UK, and many other countries.
Why Swedish Joggers Started Plogging
According to UNEP, we produce about 300 million tons of plastic waste every year that is nearly the equivalent of the entire human population. And nearly 60% of all the plastics ends up in either landfills or the natural environment.
Swedish joggers saw enough of that plastic waste while running into the parks, sidewalks, or streets. So, being tired of seeing litter in the environment months after months, they came up with an innovative solution.
When no one cared about the environment, they started picking up the trashes while jogging. Then they shared the photos online to raise awareness.
Eventually, more and more people started to join, and it became a cool fitness trend.
What Do You Need to Start Plogging Right Away?
Plogging can be a great habit you can introduce into your daily life. It will keep your body fit and the environment clean.
When you stop to collect trash and bend your knees to pick it up, it works like exercises and improves articulation of your hip, adductor muscles, and ankles. Anyway you can start plogging right away.
Here is all you need —
- desire to do good to the environment
- a pair of rubber gloves
- a garbage bag
Yes, that’s it. See how you can do good to both yourself and the environment with this very minimum equipment.
However, you can do plogging as a group activity as well. Join people who do plogging or gather like-minded people and create your own plogger group. It will be great fun.
You can also share the photo of the trash on social media to raise awareness among others. People do so many stupid things and share to gain views. So why not you share the good thing to bring some positive changes?
This planet is yours, and it’s your duty to keep your surroundings clean even when you are not responsible for making the mess.
