FICTION | GAME | MEDIUM ADVENTURERS LEAGUE ⚔️
Wizard Needed!
Part 1 of a Quest — Plenty of Fish in the Sea!

This is part of a story that works as an interactive game. You’ll need to have some paper and dice at the ready! Click here for the beginning of the Medium Adventurers League. You can also go back to the Guild Hall, or head to the inn for a rest.
You run out of the League Headquarters at full speed, then take the familiar road to childhood home. Before long, you are hurrying down the sloped streets to the Westport docks.
The message was full of spelling mistakes, and was in a barely-legible script, but you did read that they needed a wizard fast, and a wizard you can be — if the pay is right!
You make it to the docks and quickly check the instructions on the note:
We be needin’ a wizardly hand to help us with our haul, see. A Spell-slinger be handy fer many a task: baiting fish, catching fish, frying fish, and occasionally torching pirate ships! Meet us at the far end of the Westport Docks. ~Seamus
You crumple the note and run full speed to the end of the docks, where a small fishing trawler is just pulling into its mooring.
Already, there are several young adventurers on the pier, recklessly waving their wands around, zapping frogs and fish alike with magic rays.
Are you too late?
“‘Ere, ye land lubbers!” comes a bellow from the approaching boat. “Make way fer tha Kelp Kween!”
You thought maybe it was his manner of speech, but as the aged vessel slows to a stop, you note on its bow in gilded lettering that far outshines the ship itself was written “Kelp Kween”.

You race up to help tie the ship to the dock. You remember your father teaching you basic knots when you were a child.
“Thanks for that,” one of the sailors says as he hops off the boat. One of his legs has been replaced by a wooden one. “Name’s Seamus.” He shoots out his hand to shake.
You grab it without hesitation, showing him your job posting. “I guess all these wizards are here for the same job, eh?”
Seamus nods.
“But you’ll want to hire me because… I’m the best!”
He laughs as the captain and other crew swings a net full of fish out over the dock with the boat’s rickety crane. When the net is finally lowered fully, the crane seems to sigh in relief.
“Ye damned spell-slingers gots to help crate as much fish as possible! There be plenty more where that came from back out there, so the faster we unload, the better!”
Some of the wizards understand that they have been duped into petty menial labor, and you hear more than a few sighs.
“Whoe’er crates the most fish is gonna come back out with the Kelp Kween to our secret fishin’ spot!”
The wizards don’t seem to be too motivated.

“Get to cratin’, ye damn rotten sorcerers!” the captain pulls out his matchlock pistol and fires it into the air, startling everyone present. “Go on, get!”
