Plans Changed — NaNoWriMo Spring Camp
Somehow, I knew I was going to change my mind.
After much debate with myself I finally settled on what I’m going to do during the Spring Camp at NaNoWriMo. During April 2024 I will go through “My Psychic Self” a book I started during the November 2023 NaNo. In December I added another 20,000 words to the book and ended up with 74,000 words. About. The December work was rewriting, reworking and editing. The Virgo in me likes to keep the chapter lengths more or less even.
Because this is editing and not first-draft work, I needed a formula to use for reported word counts for each day. They suggested that one minute spent editing is the equivalent of one word written — an equal exchange.
My goal for this NaNo is 10,000 words. Or 10,000 minutes, which converted to time is 167 hours. That’s about 5.57 hours a day. A day’s work. About. It’s a lot for writing, but that’s generally what I spend now on writing and research (YouTube). It’s just that I don’t like editing. Doing the NaNo challenge will get me off of my butt and maybe get the book published.
Or, I might continue adding to the book and get it to what feels like a good size to me at 80,000 words. It’s at 74,000 now. Adding another 6,000 words should be easy enough. That’s five or six stories at Medium. I could dunk that from mid-court.
I designed a cover for the book. I don’t know if that’s what it will end up with in the end, but it rang the right bells for me. It was this sweet little ding that went off in my chest. That’s how I knew it was right.
So, plans have changed two hours before the NaNoWriMo Spring Camp in April 2024 begins.
Oh, and I’ve been writing up a storm stockpiling stories to post every other day at Medium so I can keep up with that while I’m busy editing.
By the way, there’s still time to join in the fun. It’s free. What’s phenomenal is the invisible writing energy of all the other people who are racing to meet their own personal goals.
Thanks for reading, and wish me luck.
