Daily Prompt: Day 13: What is your favorite city in the whole world? Describe it to us

Picking a Favorite City Can Be Tough

Introspection helps

As I was thinking of the various cities where I lived, both in India and in the United States, and trying to figure out my favorite city, I found it difficult to answer the question.

You might wonder why?

I, too, was feeling the same way. I could not pick just one, and also, there was something else coming in my way of picking my favorite one.

Do you also feel the same way?

As I made an effort to think through deeper, I realized that I adapt to living in any city quickly. In other words, I firmly believe that the weather or the behavior of the residents of the city is not in my control.

It is my responsibility to first love the place and feel belonged to that place internally. Once I take that responsibility as a privilege then I start looking for all the things good in that city and make peace with myself to live there.

With that said, two cities came to my mind. Miami, Florida, and Waikiki, Hawaii.

You guessed it!

The common factor is the beautiful beaches, and the huge expanse of ocean connects with my heart and fills me with the feeling of joy and bliss. I feel grateful and appreciative for the beauty of nature that nourishes my eyes and fills my lungs with fresh air. Yet another common factor between the two cities is that I visited them as a tourist.

If I were to pick a favorite city that seemed like a land of opportunities and helped me live and grow thru a life of happiness, sadness, learning, individuality, community, and relationship building, that would be Mumbai, India.

The houses were expensive but the process of working hard and smart to move from renter to homeowner was more exciting and thrilling than any other experience. The local transportation was crowded, but the people were friendly, warm, and respected boundaries. I can go on and on, and I am choosing to stop here, as I have to catch up with Daily Prompts 14 and 15. Thank you for reading!
