Abstract

In a surprising turn of events, Kasandra Faith Photography embraced the inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm Hilary, transforming it into an opportunity for a spontaneous and enjoyable photoshoot. The idea, proposed by the photographer's sister, led to an hour of playful posing in the rain, resulting in a series of vibrant and dynamic images. Despite the unpredictability of the weather, the photographer's passion for capturing moments in the rain was evident, and the experience added a new dimension to her appreciation for rainy days. The photoshoot involved creative use of the urban environment, with the subjects interacting with puddles, gates, and curbs, and even included an impromptu session with a charming dog. The equipment used included a Canon 5D Mark IV with a choice between a 50mm f1.8 or a 24–105mm f4 lens, and a makeshift camera protector fashioned from an IKEA bag. Photoshoot In A Tropical Rainstorm

We tried to make the best of Tropical Storm Hilary when it came to Los Angeles

The storm was here and we were hanging out in the living room when my sister said that we should go do a photoshoot in the rain? I literally jumped at the opportunity by getting up and getting my stuff together. To only have to wait another hour or so when the rain was supposed to pick up a bit.

Before this day we had talked about different photoshoot ideas but on this particular day, the shoot was unplanned and totally spontaneous. I think that added to the whole overall vibe of it. We didn’t know what was going to come out of it in the shots themselves but what we did know is that we were going to have a damn good time creating the photos and basically playing in the rain.

We were totally soaked by the end of it. We jumped in puddles, sat on the ground, balanced on curbs, leaned on gates and twirled in the middle of the street while the rain just did its thing and fell from the sky.

I am so incredibly proud of these shots. This was only the second time that I have worked directly & intentionally in the rain that I can recall in this type of setting shooting portraits and I had such a blast! It honestly brought so much joy to my day. I already loved the rain to begin with and this just added a whole new element to it!

If you want to check out my other article from my first rain shoot, I will put it below.

I will for sure do more photoshoots in the rain. Have you ever taken photos in the rain? If so, please tell me about it! I would love to hear about your experience!

We also ran into an adorable dog! Their owner was so kind to let me grab a couple photos of the pup.

What equipment did we use for this shoot? I shot with my Canon 5D Mark IV I can’t remember the lens I used but it was either: The 50mm f1.8 or the 24–105mm f4 Plastic bag Jewelry from Skyys Treasures Adobe Lightroom

I used a large IKEA version of a zip lock baggie to cover my camera to protect it as much as I could from the rain. I cut a hole out of one of the corners for my lens and got to shooting. This also had a fun almost filter like effect in some of the images when the bag would go over my lens.

Thank you, Rie for offering and being down to play out in the rain for a few hours! This will always be one of my most memorable shoots!

I did share more shots over on my Instagram if you want to check them out!

REMINDER: if you are working in the elements or in the street, please be safe and always keep an eye out for potential dangers like cars and lightning. This is for fun and we don’t want anyone getting hurt!
