Achieving AI clothing with Midjourney/Mage.Space — secrets revealed!

As I’ve explained some of the prompt terms in previous articles, we will be focusing on clothing in this one.

For the figure skater above, I specifically wrote the prompt for her to have a red sparkling dress. If you want a certain color, or multiple colors, list them. (It seems to have issues, at this time, with specific multiple colors, as I discovered trying to create butterflies for someone.) If you want sparkles, include it.

I also listed what type of dress she would wear with skate dress. (I had to search what it was called. Ironic, but fitting name!)

For the bride above, her clothing prompt is sparkling white wedding gown. (Have you noticed I love things that sparkle and shimmer?) So, again, I listed that I wanted it to sparkle. The color is listed as white and the type of gown is listed.

I received many variations of a wedding gown, as you can imagine! (The background was a surprise bonus — but fitting! — as I did not list a background. AI has taken the wedding cues and run with them; it was the same for the ice skater.

As expected — the left hand is a little weird. That’s nothing compared to some of the distorted faces lately!

I could not exclude our ocelot friend who is rising in fame! (Eventually the “cool cat” needs a name!)

This image took a very long time to achieve as I was very specific with what I wanted. I received many fur jackets, along with oodles of denim jackets. There were several black leather jackets that more closely resembled a rain coat than the biker style I had in mind. Perhaps I should have listed that. Or a brand.

After much of the day generating images, we finally have our friend sporting a black leather jacket.

AI gave either — no pants on our friend or blue jeans as requested.

I thought I included boots in the prompt but appears it was in my head only — and AI obliged!

Since I’ve been spending such large amounts of time on Midjourney and Bradan Writes Stories shared the newly discovered Mage.Space, I thought we would give them a try.

I set the same prompt parameters that I would use in Midjourney or NightCafe. I am quite pleased with the image (and images below.)

Note: Mage.Space is free!

Our very young man would take the bar up a notch. I wanted him to have a dinosaur t-shirt. Nearly all images generated had a dinosaur — one actually had a large, seemingly, Komodo Dragon in the street with him!

This AI also did very well with the age groups I set here, and in the images below, while including the clothing prompts. The shorts turned out great.

The fingers — not so much! I’m unsure if I’m amused or horrified that he has four fingers on his right hand, four twisted fingers on his left with another growing out of his arm! Now you cannot un-see it. You’re welcome.

After seeing the issues with the fingers in the previous small boy, I was curious what Mage.Space would do if I permitted a happy smile in the prompt…(I usually write the prompt in such a way that the mouth is closed!)

This child looks as though he was eating black chalk.

And the face is just unnerving. Maybe I’m weak.

But the clothing is great!

For the lady above, I not only specified lace shirt and black tights with mini skirt (to which this AI was spot on every time,) I thought we’d add a modifier — steampunk.

(I originally ran some Goth modifiers but the images were rather dark. Literally. Radiant light should have shed some light on the subject but Goth ruled the entire prompt! Pun intended!)

I went through a small handful of images to get to this one. Not because of the clothing prompt but to get a steampunk image I was satisfied with.

Again, be specific with your end goals!

Side note: Though I’m satisfied with the images produced with Mage.Space, I notice the sizing is smaller than Midjourney — even with the same sizing ratio. The small boys were 1:1, as were the Midjourney images at the beginning of this article.

It doesn’t show in the prompt but the size for this image is 2:3.

This image is in honor of my amazingly, awesome son and daughter-in-love. No — it’s not him. But he did wear something a little similar for their wedding!!

For this image, I wanted a time frame for the clothing — which I listed as 1940 pants with suspenders. The image left me wondering, did they have “high water pants” in the 40's? Each image was as requested and only took a handful of tries to have this result.

One of the tries was because I was not specific enough for the hat I wanted. Thank you Google, for informing me it was an Applejack Gatspy cap. There were several hat name options for this look.

When in doubt, search the internet!

Finishing with some class, and maybe a little sass, we have a 40 year old man sporting a tux.

Another side note: The more images you generate in Midjourney, the more wild the AI gets with a listed age. I tried generating a 2 year old girl in a pink sweater and black tights. She was very disproportional. After quite a few images, she aged to a teenager!!

The AI did well at generating a black tuxedo, but less fantastic with the long tails.

The first image had long, waving legs!

Regardless, I was pleased with the tuxedo. And with the pose.
