AI Image How-To— #6
AI sizing guide with Midjourney — secrets revealed!

We will be spending time in this article looking at different sizing options so you will have a better understanding how to achieve the goal through AI that you have envisioned in your mind.
Each of the waterfall images have the same prompt — only the sizing has changed. The same is true for the volcanoes to follow. Also, the sizing used for the volcanoes (portrait) are reversed (landscape) for the volcanoes.
For the first image (above,) there is no size listed.
I did, however, create all of the images to be photo-realistic. (This is explained in Photo-Realistic AI Images — #1.)
Each waterfall image prompt is for a waterfall in a jungle. I thought it would produce stunning images adding fantasy and magical to the word equation.

For the waterfall above, I added — — ar 1:2 (2 dashes then ar without a space — Medium keeps changing it whether I type it or copy and paste!) Check the prompt for a better understanding of how the ar code is written. Thank you Medium.

Though the above image is — — ar 3:5, it is more narrow than the first image, and shorter.
Note — as I viewed these images on the smart phone versus computer, I noticed the smart phone only made the images look portrait or landscape. Whereas the computer actually showed the size difference.

I found the — — ar 9:16 (above) to be quite similar in size to the — — ar 1:2 image, with this image being slightly shorter. This makes sense, mathematically, when you calculate the ratios. To make this image be a true 1:2, it would be — — ar 9:18.

I thought we’ begin this article by relaxing you with soothing waterfalls and end with a bang of nature’s fiery explosive power!
Yes, this is the exact same shape as the first waterfall but I didn’t want to leave out another stunning image. (Also, my OCD tendencies would not allow such an atrocity!)
For the volcano images, I used exploding volcano, lava flow as the main prompt and left fantasy, magical in the ingredients.

Medium states images should have a minimum width of 692px to ensure the image completely spans the story page.
You’ll notice the landscape images are not as long as the waterfalls were high. But they are proportional to the — — ar coding.
The above fiery explosion has — — ar 2:1 as the size.

The above exploding volcano is sized at — — ar 5:3.

This has been my default sizing for landscape images based on what I’ve read and the sizing I’ve seen so many others use.
You only get the true sizing affect (for landscape images) if you, or your reader, click on the image for a better look (at that weird nose, eye oddity, or third ear.)
This image is sized at — — ar 16:9.
I began this article using a nature photographer (instead of by Mario Testino) but, to me, the images were not as vibrant and crisp. So, I reverted back to Mario Testino.
