Pet Makes a Good Companion

That’s right. Do you want a pet? How do you know? 7 tips.

Do you want a pet? Are you ready? How do you know?

Tips

  1. A pet can be a good companion for people who live alone or with a disability or mild mental illness.

I grew up with cats and dogs in my home. My mom owned a cat and dog at a different time. The cat used to sit in the living room and move around the house freely. No assigned person cared for her except to give her food and water and bathe her. The dog went out as he liked and came home for food. Both animals ate what we ate and sometimes ate meat bones rejected by humans.

Our last family dog, Lucky, was loved and admired by most people. He was my mom’s security guard and was effective when they traveled to a remote farm.

In the US, my experience shows that pets are like most children, with exceptional food, a doctor, toys and clothing, school, a playground, accommodation, and health insurance.

Second, I’ve known people who treat their pets better than their children and themselves. A former client would buy dog food and take her to the best Vet while complaining about her children’s needs and wants. Why that? She proudly explained that the children could get help from her parent’s and grandparents’ estate. That’s right.

When my children were young, they wanted a pet, too. However, we didn’t have one because of my partner. He is allergic to animals and explained, “ I didn’t make a financial plan for a pet.” I didn’t either. You get the gist.

Then I moved to my current home, I observed how many pet owners love and care for their dogs. One person whom I admire walks her beautiful dog rain or shine. She inspires me do my daily walk in a low temperature with an umbrella or many layers of coats.

Are you ready for a pet? How do you know?

The truth is that pets make good companions; however, they require a lot of work. In the US, pets need special food, toys, a doctor, health insurance, and a morning or evening walk most days.

I observed, too, that some pet owners cannot afford a special companion, so they get one, which renders them helpless. For example, I witnessed pet owners who refused to clean after their pets or take them for an outdoor walk. One put the dog outside the driveway each morning and played with his phone for a few minutes before dragging the dog inside the house.

Again, a pet requires a lot of work. Are you ready to own one? My research and observation show that caring for a dog may take more time and money than caring for an infant or school-aged child.

Therefore, here are the tips before adopting or buying a pet. People can ask themselves these questions too.

  1. A pet can be a good companion for people who live alone or with a disability or mild mental illness.
  2. Be honest about having a companion and what is involved in doing. Be your own person and make your own decision.
  3. Research cost of feeding, Vet fees, and health insurance.
  4. Are you an outdoor person?
  5. Are you physically fit? How often do you go out of your home for a walk or run?
  6. Do have a three or six-month emergency fund.
  7. You have a stable income or dividend you can share with your pet.

Help yourself grow. Get good with your life.
