Personal Secret Ingredients To Propel Writing Success

You may want to use them sometimes, but first you need to determine that they are

Do you ever wonder why some writers are more successful than others? For example, one person’s written content could be doing very well and it seems to happen every single week, month and year. It might not even matter what they are writing about. They simply succeed.

I have seen and read many writers on Medium and elsewhere who make lots of money every year. They are doing very well and I am happy for them. But honestly, I would like to know about the personal ingredients of their success.

Personal Ingredients of a Writer

A lot of success in life comes down to some very basic principles. Let me first state that I am not an expert on motivation or the psychology of humans, so please take everything I write with a grain of salt and maybe a wink too, just for fun.

  • Motivation. What gets people to do stuff? Besides making money, it helps to know why you are writing a story or developing a novel. One reason is that it could be for income and that is fine. Another reason could be for fame or recognition. Or a writer could be creating written content to connect with readers, fans and followers.

Each of us is different and we come from a wide range of cultures, countries and lifestyles. On an individual level, there are motivating factors and those can propel us to success.

Sometimes little things happen that act like a light switch to get us going. You might see someone start to do well online and you could be the competitive type who thinks, “I need to catch up to her success and try harder." Or something you read may hint at a conversation that you want to be a part of, and so you join. Lastly, you could be involved in a predicament and your story or content hints at an issue without being too direct about it.

  • Pushing Your Buttons. You may not always be aware of the personal secret ingredients that are helping you as a writer or that can make you more successful. If you want to know more about them, you just have to be honest with yourself, or not honest if you don’t want to know. Either way, it’s good to have an understanding if you are working internally, for personal reasons, or externally as in reacting to others and their achievements.

The Big Bake and Creating Things

What does a personality and personal ingredients have to do with success in writing? Let me try to explain.

You have yourself and all of the little things that get you motivated about writing and creating written content. Those are the basic ingredients.

Then you have the platform where you publish and that is like an oven.

Now it is time to gather everything together for your story and put it into a form that can do well in the oven.

But before you start, you can always think in the background as you do the work, and consider how your personal ingredients are helping you make something wonderful.

  • Do you have an interesting life story or moment that is worth sharing?
  • Can you put it together with other ingredients to make it great?
  • Are you motivated to make it wonderful?
  • Will you be willing to share it with others or keep it for yourself?
  • How much effort will you put into the promotion and sharing of your content?
  • Is your commitment to succeed high enough?

Lastly, your personal ingredients can also include factors like dedication and determination. There will be days of limited success or none at all.

Find a way to get back to the kitchen the next time and cook up a wonderful story for the people waiting for it. And don’t worry if sometimes things don’t turn out like you thought they would. Believe me, I’ve had my fair share of undercooked biscuits or strange-looking cookies, if you know what I mean.
