Summary

Personal growth is a continuous journey that emphasizes progress over perfection, advocating for a balanced approach to self-improvement that includes self-care and enjoyment of life.

Abstract

The article emphasizes that personal growth is not synonymous with achieving perfection. It illustrates a typical morning routine of someone dedicated to self-improvement, which includes prayer, gratitude, journaling, meditation, and exercise. Despite the positive habits, the individual feels drained before even starting the workday. The author suggests that the pursuit of personal development should not be so intense that it leads to exhaustion. Instead, it should be a slow and steady process that is enjoyed throughout one's life. Success is not measured by the speed of one's progress but by the direction and consistency of self-improvement efforts. The article concludes by reminding readers that as long as they are willing and able, personal growth will happen, and it's important to pace oneself to fully appreciate the journey.

Opinions

  • Personal development should not lead to burnout; it's important to balance self-improvement with self-care.
  • The journey of becoming a better version of oneself is more about the direction of growth than the speed at which one progresses.
  • Success is not defined by how quickly one achieves their goals, but rather by the sustained effort and personal evolution over time.
  • Enjoying the process of personal growth is crucial, as life is meant to be a fulfilling journey rather than a relentless pursuit of perfection.
  • Taking breaks and slowing down when necessary is not only acceptable but also beneficial for appreciating the path to self-improvement.

Personal Growth is Not About Perfection

You’ll feel better about not having it all together once you realize this.

Brrrnnnnggg.

Your alarm goes off — startling you. How is it 5:00 a.m. already? you think. You hit the snooze button — all you need is an extra 9 minutes and you’ll feel much more energized.

When your alarm goes off again, you snooze once more thinking a little more relaxation won’t hurt.

Thirty minutes later you finally get up, say a quick prayer, and practice gratitude.

Then you pull out your morning journal and write affirmations, brain dump and take notes on any dreams you’ve had.

Next, you meditate for 20 minutes.

When that’s over you move on to stretch your body for 30 minutes or do a light mood-boosting workout.

You get ready for the day.

You haven’t begun work, yet you feel exhausted already.

Sure, you’re in a positive headspace but, you’re drained.

If you’re so busy working on yourself that you don’t have time for self-care, it might be time to take a break.

Personal development is about taking steps to better yourself and go after the life of your dreams.

What it’s not about is perfection.

It’s necessary to work on yourself and grow as you age but, slow and steady wins the race, always.

Once you become successful nobody will bring up how long it took you to get there. They’ll all be too busy singing your praises or hopping on the bandwagon.

Personal development is centered around becoming aware of what you need to become a better version of yourself and what you need to do to get there. You have your entire life to experience being human. And, it’s a journey meant to be enjoyed.

As long as you have breath in your body and are ready, willing, and able to improve you will.

When you’re winded allow yourself to slow the pace, you’ll enjoy the path more.

“Direction is more important than speed. Many are going nowhere fast.”
