Perseverance Pays Off

It’s a dream come true

I’ve been writing for over six decades. This translates into:

I no longer have viable eggs.

I recently needed cataract surgery.

I have enough rejection letters to wallpaper my entire house.

BUT I NEVER GAVE UP!

The three most important words for a writer: Perseverance, Perseverance, Perseverance.

If you believe in yourself, it will happen.

This announcement came in February, before the world turned upside down.

#PitMad participant Janie Emaus’s LATKES FOR SANTA CLAUS, in which a girl searches for a treat to leave Santa that blends both holidays her family celebrates: Christmas and Hanukkah, illustrated by Bryan Langdo, to Nicole Frail at Sky Pony Press, in a nice deal, for publication in fall 2020 (world).

I won’t deny that I’m not thrilled to death. And I know in my heart the book is going to do well. What other way is there to look at it?

My point here is to tell anyone of you struggling to make that first sale: DON’T GIVE UP.

Write every day, even if it’s just a few lines or thoughts in a journal.

Write your truth.

Join a critique group. Take what you need from the other writers, let the rest fall to side.

Read in the genre you’re writing.

Read in the genres you’re not writing.

Read. Read. Read.

Buy books!

Believe in yourself!

Thanks for reading!
