Perplexity AI — A New AI-Powered Search Engine

You can’t help but have noticed that almost everything online these days is “AI-powered”. It’s becoming tiresome, quite frankly, but I’m always open to something new that is genuinely useful and that fills a gap in the market.

So when I saw there was a new AI-powered search engine around, I decided to take a look.

It’s called Perplexity AI, and it’s a combination of a search engine and AI chatbot.

One of my biggest problems with most search engines that it can be difficult to construct some queries in a way that makes sense without being too wordy.

That’s why I started using ChatGPT to ask such questions. For example, “what animals live near rocks on cyprus?” gives you a better and more direct answer than most search engines do.

Perplexity AI can do the same — respond to naturally worded questions — but what sets it apart from ChatGPT is the way it also includes active links to its sources.

It also seems to have a more up-to-date knowledge base than ChatGPT — it can answer some questions about 2023, which ChatGPT cannot do (with a free account, at least).

Then, it shows related questions, and all you have to do is click the one you’re interested in, and it will answer that one too.

It’s free to use, although they do have a Pro version which currently costs $20 per month, and it’s (currently) ad-free.

So far, I’m impressed with Perplexity AI, so why not check it out?
