Perfectionism Has Your Dreams In A Chokehold

Being a perfectionist is something that I imagine the majority of people think is a good thing. A perfectionist, or someone with perfectionism is defined as:

‘A person who refuses to accept any standard below perfection’.

You still may be thinking, so what’s the problem? They will complete every task to an absolute t. Unfortunately, as humans we will make mistakes, it’s in our nature. We aren’t robots, at least not yet anyway, although some writers on Medium are getting close, wink wink.

People with perfectionism don’t complete every task they start until perfection, because they don’t even start. The fear of falling short of perfection prevents them from beginning. Can you blame them? Is it even possible to try something new and not fail, here and there?

I started my personal brand in April and I can’t count how many times I’ve failed. The difference between who I used to be, and who I am now is that I forgot perfection, and just started. No, your writing won’t be perfect, but if you never begin you will never reach perfection.

And if you refuse to start, fearing not reaching perfection, then your dreams will remain in the graveyard of nightmares.

Only you can start, no one else. Perfection is something almost unattainable, so stop setting unrealistic expectations.

Before I started writing online I kept thinking ‘It will take so long to reach financial freedom’. That thought alone kept me from starting for a long time. Imagine where I would be now if I hadn’t been held back.

Start, then work towards perfection through countless failures and lessons learned.
