Perfect Student

perfect posture head held high gentle grip careful placement “like ballet”
hold the bow firm in the finger-tips with a loose flowing wrist
never bouncing always gliding across taut strings slowly advancing methodically then reversing simple scales
heart rate rising as critical eyes drill into limp almost blonde pigtails firm steps pacing a circle vibrations collect reverberating inside my skull and neck
rigidly clenching an already tight jaw pressing forward despite the flaws as many notes as I can hold finally the tremors starting in the bowstrings enrage and engulf me
spinning me into a shrieking oblivion miraculously the instrument finds the table instead of the floor before all rational thought melts away leaving only movement and tears in its wake
