Hello Penny Pub Writers!
Whew! We are past Valentine’s Day, and I appreciated all your submissions about ‘Love at First Sight.’ Our next prompt is near and dear to my heart. I often say that I was born with the heart of a rockstar but with no talent to go with it! I look forward to your responses!
If you’re a new writer, I’d ask that you pay close attention to the guideline reminders below.
Lastly, please keep in mind that we are looking for engagers. Please make sure to read, clap, highlight, and comment on the other responses. Personally, I am enjoying getting to know everyone through both responses and comments, and I hope you are enjoying that too.
Current prompt
Tell us about the role music plays (or doesn’t play) in your life.
If you love music, tell us what kind and why you love it so much. Recount an embarrassing moment where music played a part in the scene you’re recreating for us (a bad date, a horrible experience during High School band practice, etc). Hate country music? Tell us why! Did you have an amazing concert experience? We want to hear about it! Is there a love song that represents you and your partner? Share its meaning with us!
If you are neurodivergent, please consider sharing how music helps or hinders you. If you’re a queer person, share with us the band or singer that you think supports the queer community well.
Topic Tag: Penny8 — required, suggested tags: Music, Lifestyle, Culture, Writing Prompts.
Have fun, everyone!

Guideline reminders
Length of stories: Responses should be 3–4 minutes long (500–750 words). Stories over 4 minutes will be asked to be edited to meet length parameters.
Photos: One photo in horizontal (landscape) or square orientation (no vertical/long photos) must include a citation with a link to the source and must include a brief description in the alt text dropdown.
Formatting: Please include a title (formatted with the large T) and a subtitle (formatted with the small T), and if you use a kicker, it should be in all caps. Please use two to four sentences per paragraph to make reading easier and avoid a string of single-sentence paragraphs.
Tags: Make sure that one of your five tags is Penny8
Grammar & Quality: Please make sure to edit your piece. If you’re a new writer, read it out loud to make sure it flows well and makes sense. Consider utilizing a tool like Grammarly to help you edit.
AI Writing: The Penny Pub does not accept stories written by AI.
Publishing: Remember that we often schedule stories 24 hours after editing. We are a boost-eligible pub, and the best practice is to boost from the queue. All editors are volunteers, so please understand that it may take a little longer for us to edit your pieces on evenings and weekends.
Private Notes: We utilize private notes within your story to communicate with you. If you primarily use the Medium app on your phone, you will not receive a notification or be able to see these notes. So, access Medium via a browser to see and respond to notes. Do not delete private notes. Only you and the editor can see them; we use them for reference after a piece is published.
Prompt Timeframe: Please note that we post a new prompt every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. Once a new prompt is posted, we will generally no longer receive submissions for an old prompt.
