Peel Me Back
A Poem
Peel me back and expose what’s inside The veins of despair The gentle longing A small breath of hope emanating from the deep recesses of my psyche
You have to pull harder to peel me back because all that’s hiding doesn’t want to play It likes where it lives in relative obscurity Forgotten and forlorn
Be careful when you do because you may not like what you find when you dive deep into me You can’t cork the bottle again once it’s been uncorked and my secrets lay everywhere
Be more gentle with your unwrapping and maybe you can descend gradually down the stairs of my core Each one a longer step than the last
Peel me back and open me up but please, when you are done Put me back together again Because it’s one thing to be exposed and another to remain that way when the world is watching
