Peach Fuzz is Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year
Peach Fuzz is the new Greige

Pantone announced that Peach Fuzz is the Color of the Year for 2024, and if you were like me, you thought “What? There is a Color of the Year?” The last time peach was Big was in the 1980s when peach and forest green were decorating colors. I remember because I had to choose carpet for some office building we were in and these were the Trending Colors.
What if this is not the right year for you? What if you like harvest gold or avocado green which are only found on old appliances in outdated apartments and keep waiting to be trending?
The Peach I have seen touted as this year’s color has beige undertones, so it can be used as wall paint in new houses, and it is almost neutral. I say almost neutral because I can hang peach towels in the bathroom, and have furniture with some burgundy/reddish hints in the living room, and it all matches, sorta, the Peach Fuzz colored walls which I Do Have in my now trending apartment. It’s my only trendy thing, but I’ve waited long enough so it’s come around again.
The jewelry they call Pantone Peach Fuzz will be Black Hills gold, which is a rosy gold but will be called peachy gold for marketing purposes.
Now, peach fuzz evokes the blush of late summer, the soft first whiskers of a young man, probably not beige like the Pantone neutrals, but the neutral colors of fuzz, which is a texture, and isn’t a color at all. So, very neutral.
The fuzzy navel isn’t a color either, although the drink is made from peach schnapps with something. Peach schnapps sounds odious, as do most drinks with flavored schnapps.
Schnapps is drunk by ice fishermen or old men in Wisconsin, who might be the same thing — old ice fishermen in Wisconsin standing around their set-up fishing rig on the frozen lake, unscrewing the cap on their flask for a little nip of peach schnapps and a recollection of August while snapping the button as they put the flask back in the pocket of the Carhart jacket.
I will just enjoy that Peach Fuzz is the trending Pantone Color of 2024 with beige undertones. I have coral clothing I can wear to blend into my living room. I might even put on Coral lipstick for the occasion, instead of one of my beigey neutral mature woman’s lipsticks.
Which will match the beige painting I’m doing for the walls, sorta inspired by Rothko with Beige and a square of Peach Fuzz.
Remember, it’s the Color of the Year.
