Peace Among Plants

September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Comfort”

Trying to keep my thumb green.

I have always found houseplants comforting. I remember, as a child, going to my grandmother’s home, filled with violets all around.

One of my first jobs was for Bachman’s, a local floral and garden center. My mom said I smelled of roses when I would come home from work. I began to fill my bedroom with plants and flowers, purchased at a discount because of my part-time job.

As an introvert who suffers from anxiety, plants are a necessity at creating a calming environment. But my green thumb falters from time to time, which in turn can cause anxiety of a different sort.

Why did it die this time?

Maybe too much watering. Not the right light.

But I keep trying.

I purchased the above little succulent in the cute cat planter during Covid. Full disclosure: the plant has since died. I swear I didn’t over water it. I think. But the planter lives on, bringing me comfort as I search for a new plant. And pray my thumb turns green, like my grandmother’s, one day.
