Pause. Reconnect. Restart.

Dear Readers,

An ode to 2024.

2024 feels different this year. Winds of change are arriving.

I typically am not a big fan of New Year bashes and countdown and pressure that comes along with it. I have tried to buy into the pressure by attending parties and getting hyped up and making resolutions. Not strongly bought into the party culture for NYE. However, resolution setting is an important practice. Its good to have goals, develop visions, be thankful, and if it works for majority of the population, then who am to say its not great.

I understand my lack of inclination, is solely because i do not have an annual review with myself. I hold myself accountable regularly. Also, to get a headstart, I conduct an annual review 3 months prior. So basically, I am already 3 months in, into my New Year. And then since I follow Hinduism, we already have a fresh New Year post Diwali. So, too much of a good thing and repetition I guess.

I believe in the concept of 1 % improvement, making small changes in tweaks in daily routines. We often tend to underestimate the power of small changes that we make throughout the year. We often overestimate how much we will achieve in one year and underestimate the power of 5 years and create a myopic vision. In words of Joel Osteen, we don’t pray big enough, our prayers have the flu. Time and again, its known that come new year one of the biggest resolutions made is for health and the gym memberships go up by a dime a dozen. And just as many people quit which is why, for one, its a very profitable business as well * wink wink * ;)

It is a known fact that people who write their goals tend to achieve them a lot faster. So resolutions are definitely a good idea. But now, with 6 days towards the new year and festivities of X’mas in the air, I would suggest the below:

Pause — Yes 6 days can turn around your life. Sometimes, all it takes is a second, a phone call, a chance encounter , a chance meeting. But all of these things are a grace of God or higher power and when your life calling comes to you, nothing in this world will be able to stop it. So, take a pause. Relax for some time. Its ok to just let it go, of all the stressors, of all the plans for sometime till you feel geared up and energetic enough for step 2 which is to Reconnect.

Reconnect — Reconnect with yourself, with your family and friends. Reconnect with the silence inside of you which wants to be seen. Reconnect with your inner child. Reconnect with all parts of yourself which you deem good or bad. Your anxiety led you to search for solutions, your fear led you to better avenues or helped you take the next step toward future, your lack moved you to abundance, your happiness lightened up a soul, your kindness moved someone, your love gave someone joy, a short 15 second encounter made someone feel beautiful. You have added a lot of value to this world in your own way. Practice gratitude again if you haven’t in a while. Count your blessings. Maybe forgive or if you can’t forgive then forget the misdemeanors of people. This will release you to now restart!

Restart — Bring a fresh zeal to your life. Maybe think of yourself as a painter and this is a blank canvas. What would you like to paint. Establish some goals, write them down, I have heard writing down your goals in present tense is a good exercise for visualization but whatever works. And take small actionable steps. Inspiration will come in the most unknown ways. Grace will be granted if you just believe in the Power of Magic.

Maybe write a wish to Santa and put it in stockings. Maybe pray with a little more faith. Have a more faith in yourself as one is never alone. You have come this far and its a lot far to just give up on your goals. Create vision boards, write your goals and Restart the new year with a zest for life always remember the 1% rule. And yes school is over so, fiscal years have their own cycle, annual evaluation though is a good practice, is in no way indicative of successes and failures in your personal life.

May 2024 feels positively even better than last year. Wishing you lots of love and success, this holiday season and beyond!!

Love and Light,

Ritika ❤
