Party Resolution
A recluse begins a list
Joel did not know when the party ended. He left at two in the morning and it was still going. It was the first real party that he had gone to in perhaps a dozen years. He would have left earlier except he got sucked into some deep conversations.
He had not had any deep conversations in a long time either. He suddenly realized that he missed that. When did he become such a recluse?
If felt great to connect with other humans on a deep personal level. A deep profound conversation can leave an imprint on the skein of time and space, forging a very human connection that seems timeless. Thinking back over his life, Joel remembered all the major events that took place but he also remembered those important conversations he had, not just with relationship partners but also with friends and a few with strangers.
Realizing the importance of communication with others and connection with others, he decided that his life had gone off course and he needed to get it back on track. It was time for his recluse days to end. He wanted that human connection again.
Joel tried to remember the last time he threw a party of his own. He could not remember exactly. It must have been at least fifteen years ago. He decided he wanted to throw a party. It did not even have to be a party; just a gathering. There did not have to be any loud music — although at the party the previous night he heard some wonderful music that he had not heard in years. There did not have to be alcohol. Joel did not drink but then he realized that the guests might like some wine.
Then he looked at his apartment. He would have to do some serious cleaning if he was going to have people over. And what about snacks? Joel quickly came up with a list of hundreds of reasons not to throw a party. The biggest question was, Who the hell would he invite?
Shaking his head, he chuckled at how quickly his brain came up with excuses not to have a party. Was that a big reason for not having thrown a party in fifteen years? Stupid brain! he thought.
Joel then went to his desk atop which sat a piece of paper. At the top of the paper was written, New Year’s Resolutions. The rest of the page was blank. Picking up a pen he wrote under the title, Throw A Party. It felt good to finally get his list started. Chuckling, he then wrote, People Are Humans, Too.
It felt good also knowing that he had an entire month left to add to the list.
