Parodies of Two Classic Neil Diamond Songs
Holly Holy’s MuddyUm Serenade for Boss’s Day, 10/15/2021

I sat down to write a shameless plug featuring pseudonyms — inspired by coMudditors Baskerville Old Face & Amy Sea — with the working title An Acrostic, an Anagram, and a Song Parody Went Into a Barn. I planned to change my name to Holly Holy for a day or two.
Then I realized Boss’s Day was coming up. I’m my own boss IRL these days, thank god, but recognize our Cap’n as my fearless leader in all things humor and many things daily life. She’s the brilliance behind three additional pubs and the Garden of Neuro.
I look forward to groveling at Susan’s feet in person next year at MuddyUm Comedy Camp unless I go overboard before then, with or without help.
Let’s take the plunge! Sing, sing, sing!
MuddyUm Serenade
Based on ‘Longfellow Serenade’ in admiration of our Captain Susan Brearley’s vision and leadership.
MuddyUm serenade Big were the plans she laid For this pub’s her baby And Outlaws are dreamers With only words to trade You know that we were born to write like this Laughing at funny bits We can’t be lonely We’re never lonely
Write, come on now and write Let’s all make our dreams come true I’ll write this song You can sing along Let me give a laugh to you
I’ll parody this rhyme For you as fancy flight We’ll celebrate our time When the time is right
Join in, and come what may Enjoy our accolades That’s why I wrote for us my MuddyUm serenade
MuddyUm serenade Big were the plans she laid ’Cause she is the lady Behind all the clever If pirate crew be paid
And when she asked, they helped us as none before Clapped for our words and more We won’t be lonely We’re never lonely
Write, come on now and write Let’s make all our dreams come true You’ll sing my song I will sing along We will share a laugh or two
I’ll weave this parody For you as fancy flight We’ll Camp with Comedy When the time is right
Join in, and come what may Enjoy our accolades I hope you’ll sing with me this MuddyUm serenade

Holly Holy Song
You’re getting two parodies for the price of one because Neil Diamond proved unexpectedly fascinating. He writes lyrics differently — perhaps more intentionally? — than other artists I’ve parodied. We’re coevals so let’s hope Susan grooves on ND too.
Need a refresher? Here’s the original + UB40’s reggae cover, which to me sounds nicely funky.
Holly Holy cries Would you follow me Here I am, there I am This I believe in Holly Holy Holly Holy dreams Wanting only views And they come and they go, just like the wind will Holly Holy
(Clap) Clap along (Clap) Clap along along (Clap) Clap it up Clap it strong (Clap, clap, clap, clap) Yeah Yeah
Write a word in the dead of the night On my phone with the blue lighting on Touch the keys that I barely see And I’ll write till break of the dawn And I yawn, yeah And I yawn
Holly Holy song Love these parodies And the rhymes These are times gone with tomorrow Holly Holy
(Clap) Clap along (Clap) (Clap) Clap along along (Clap) (Clap) Clap it out (Clap) Clap it strong (Clap, clap, clap, clap) Yeah Yeah
