Parents MUST Stop Helicopter Parenting
The Constant Hovering Has to STOP!
Parents would argue that helicopter parenting is the best, given all the benefits it brings for them. However, children would agree that the consistent, constant hovering has to STOP!
What’s Helicopter Parenting?
As the name suggests, it involves constant hovering and over-involvement in a child’s life to be protective.
Why Parents Can’t Stop Helicopter Parenting?
Helicopter parenting has straight-up benefits for the parents. Parents whose childhood was rough, with uninvolved or rather abusive parents, use helicopter parenting to provide all the special care they lacked during their childhood.
That’s a good thing to provide for the children, but overdoing the good thing often results in a bad reaction.
Similarly, even if helicopter parenting helps the parents, there are long-term bad effects on its children. Let’s see how parents benefit from this.
- Helicopter parents are proactive with learning what’s concerning their child.
- They help the children get over bullying and other issues at school.
- They are protective and take care of all the health concerns of their child.
- They monitor their child’s activity, outside & inside the house, and also their devices.
- They are well aware of what their child is up to, their location, and other activities such as whom their child is interacting with.
- They get to manage the child’s friendship & other relationships so that he/she doesn’t get into any sort of trouble.
- They are secure.
However, coinciding with these benefits are the heavy prices the children have to pay at the cost of keeping their parents secure & informed.
Here are a few effects on children with helicopter parents.
- The incapability of fighting own battles
- Lacking problem-solving skills
- High dependence on parents
- Insecure future. Parents can’t pave the entire path for their children.
- Lack of confidence
- Low Self-esteem
- High risk of anxiety issues
- Children get frustrated because of micro-management and over-interference.
This list may look harmless, but try to understand how deeply all these can impact the child’s future.
Authoritative Parenting is considered to be the best parenting style. It involves care & love for children while letting them fight their own battles to make them self-sufficient.
