Pardon, ME?
Pardon, ME?!
Am I Aaron Burr, sir
Did I kill the man who feuded with my bursar
I remember no trial or charge of crime, sir.
What may I inquire, am I exonerated from?
Excuse me, my ignorance
I’ve not brushed up on Constitutional law
But you pardoning me has a fundamental flaw.
Me and my kind are guilty of no crime
You kill billions each year
Should I bow my head, say grace
Perhaps be more thankful for the time
I intend to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt
That it’s YOU who need pardon
Now tighten your jaw, shut your mouth
Talk less, care more
Heed to this rabble as we scream, REVOLUTION!
We have our best interests at heart
Don’t kill 46 million of my brothers and sisters
And act as if sparing one is doing your part
Do you wanna be in the room where it happens
On the slaughterhouse floor, no flags flown half-mast
This is OUR Valley Forge: strike quick, get out fast
Let’s leave this horror show in the past
I will never be satisfied until all are free
Although they missed a few beings when they mention liberty
I admit your flawed, founding fathers had a few things right
Life is my pursuit of happiness on Thanksgiving night.
The poem was inspired by the presidential pardon, a post from Farm Sanctuary, and I paid homage to the Hamilton musical.
