For over a billion epochs the adamant intrigue of scientific advancement has challenged the restrained boundaries of our so called common sense. It has debunked the very core of our comforting beliefs as we learnt to accept these new revelations to govern our reality. This former decade has been the breeding ground for revolutionary strides that redefined mankindʼs perception of the Universe. It has been the pinnacle of scientific glory, justly embraced by the swift evolution of pioneering modern technology to support these unorthodox epiphanies.Starting from the consequential unearthing of gene editing to the first visible confirmation of black holes, these astounding accomplishments are a testament to the incredible capability of the adamant human will. Here we stand again, on the brink incarnating yet another scientific fantasy, this time with other worldly implications.
As the stupefied world has been delegated to its knees in the wake of this brutal pandemic, people throughout received a much anticipated break from this mounting misery as a NASA story spread like an unprecedented wildfire, guided by the influential winds of the notorious Internet. Chilling reports of an alleged “Parallel Universe” surfaced on copious news outlets as it sparked the unwavering fascination of everyone. People held their breath in utter bewilderment as they spectated this momentous development unfold. So whatʼs the big kerfuffle about?
It was the eventful year of 2016, you know the year with the “revolutionary” fidget spinners and pop atrocities? Situated in the desolate pearl deserts of Antarctica was the setting of a queer discovery. NASAʼs Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna or ANITA probe which was essentially a stratospheric balloon-based experiment in Antarctica used to detect radio waves from highly energetic neutrinos or, for the less gifted, a basic radio telescope, received the transmission of an inquisitive neutrino out burst, notable not because of its activity but rather because of its trajectory which connoted that it was being emitted upwards from the earth defying strict gravity, altering the very rudimentary laws of our relatable physics, perhaps changing the world as we know it forever. This inexplicable phenomena was witnessed several times over the span of three years before it was finally documented and I can assure you, the world took notice.
Yet the credibility of this outlandish assertion is questionable. The original paper published does not even vaguely mention the possibility of the inverted neutrino shower being evidence of an opposite Parallel Universe. It was only after the expression of this fanatical supposition in a news portal that it boosted the publicity of the Antarctic findings. Perhaps it is more than likely that we have fallen prey to a wistful far fetched exaggeration whose momentary temptation bent all logic. Perhaps this was some cruel version of Chinese whisper which got wildly carried away. The inexplicable Parallel Universe is a theory in progress at best as far more feasible explanations could be pursued to resolve this neutrino dilemma. Yet for the time being, this idiosyncratic development will continue to fascinate our intrigue.
Yet, letʼs “never say never” and imagine this wild fantasy has viable validation, it would have cataclysmic implications on the world as we know it. The sudden resurfacing of the inverted neutrinos from the, and I cannot stress more on the inverted commas here, “Parallel Universe” would insinuate the existence of a sort of portal which hypothetically, connects the two ends of the time spectrum. So where is this magical portal? Surely not Diagonal Alley. The ANITA findings speculated that these abrupt neutrino bursts seemed to be coming from the very core of the Earth. If this could be confirmed then perhaps interaction between the two contrast Universes could be feasible.Yet every development on the Antarctic findings still continue to be a complete conjecture with not much decisive evidence. The detection of neutrinos is very tricky as their extremely low mass means minimal reaction with matter. So it still seems a likely possibility that the results were an incidental anomaly.
Theories form the cornerstone of reality. It is what starts out to be a wild epiphany which seems unpragmatic but is only one bewildering revelation away to become reality. From the “atrocious” claim of Copernicus that debunked Earth to be dominating the heavens to the “irrational” declarations of Einstein that authenticates time travel. So perhaps there is a Parallel Universe, and we just uncovered it…
