Paradise to Cold Country: Orlando to Salt Lake City and Into Idaho
Flying across the United States and dealing with family issues

Take-off as the sun is rising is amazing… magical… mesmerizing. All the colors and shadings and plays on light. Blues, purples, yellows, grays and golds.
Such was my view from the airplane window when I left Orlando, FL just a mere couple of weeks ago.
I’ve always loved Orlando, for its year-round beauty and greenery, and its hustle and bustle.
For me, the city is alive… and I love things that are alive with energy, pulsating with activity.
I never want to be somewhere where I feel deadened to life.

Here are some photos of a little street market I attended while in Florida.

People were selling homemade goods like windchimes, jewelry, soaps and various food items.
My friend supplied the music via guitar, and I joined in singing a few songs, as we used to play together back in another life.
Everyone was so nice and there was a lot of chatting and warmth, even though the temps were slightly chilly.
On the other hand, I was quite apprehensive about flying across the country to Utah and Idaho after being away for so long. Was happy to be leaving a lot of stress behind in Trinidad and take a break though.
But seeing family members I hadn’t seen in a long time… well, it ended up being bittersweet.
My two older brothers and me were pretty close growing up, but then we drifted apart. I suppose a lot of people can relate. It happens as we get older.
We tried to reconnect the best way we could, I suppose, but at the end of the day I have to accept that we are still very different people. Maybe it’s just me that’s different anyway.
I read all the time about families who are close and who always do things together and there seems to be such a strong bond. And I think, my family could be that way, too!
Well, it never ends up quite being that way anymore… but I still hold out hope… one day, maybe it will. Maybe I was just ready and they weren’t.
It happens. I’m patient and understanding and forgiving. Have to be!

This was my view flying into the Salt Lake City airport… a stark difference isn’t it? Cold, gray, brown… but with its own kind of beauty.
And some shots of the airport:

After visiting some of my cousins in Utah, I journeyed onto Idaho, which looks like this right now:

I much prefer Orlando and Trinidad. I much prefer warmth and tropical.
I don’t mind the heat so much, but the cold seeps into my bones and effects my brain somehow.
And luckily, I’m getting ready to head back to Trinidad very soon! Happy about that!
