Pandemonia
A Distant Heart

I gave up looking
you appeared
as if to taunt me
with my fears
Two crossed my path
in time of rest
I could not tell
who would be best
While West Coast knows
what East is doing
I’m in the middle
of pining and stewing
and when pressed
to not reveal
a midnight dream
and kiss to steal
I sort and render
all that’s good
taking stock
of if I should
reach out arms
to each of you
the habit’s on
the other shoe
as where we dwell
I yet do wonder
from which foundation
we rend asunder
the full meaning
of what we were
when time forgot
a sticky burr
or longing
as our hearts cracked open
to let in light
where once was broken
the record of a shattered lie
between the pages
where we vie
for love’s superiority
to write the book
of mystery
one for the ages
one for history
I came to you
to be more clear
of how I felt you
once so dear
and what I meant
to say to you
but habit’s on
the other shoe
as while we wait
to see each other
my mind has gone
to some brief lover
who will not let me
love or leave
the distant heart
to whom I cleave
