Pandemic Tuesday
A Poem
Only in America a pandemic is
a partisan political culture war, where wearing a mask
is not a sign of awareness, concern, prevention
but it is a sign of ideology, of which party you
belong to and if you
trust science or not. Only in America
is this a war war war not on a virus
not on an illness not on ensuring people
survive but a war between
people armed with guns and Fox News and
people armed with science and compassion.
We drink our coffee on a pandemic Tuesday, we take note of the man shot
dead - for asking a woman to wear a mask
before entering a dollar store. We take note of the park ranger
pushed into a lake for asking people
to please, social distance. We take note of the strange mix of
infection numbers rising and prevention measures lifting and we know
what we have always known - only in America are
some people worthless and
some people worth less.
