If you don’t like vegetables, you may freak out reading this listing of vegetables we need to make it. But trust me, you will love the end product. The fun fact is that even I don't like vegetables but seeing them in this form and irritates my mom so much.
Procedure
- The first thing we need to do is to prepare dough for the momos. For this mix, at least 1 cup all-purpose flour along with a pinch of salt as per taste and 1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil.
- To make the dough, pour water little by little into the flour and start kneading to make a dough. You need to knead the dough so well that it meets the rolling consistency we need in our dough.
- You can also add some extra flour to the dough if you find that the dough became too soft and sticky due to the excess water you poured into it. After you feel like the dough is ready, cover it up with a moist cloth and keep it aside.
- Now it's time to prepare the stuffing for the momos. Before doing this, soak 2 large dry red chilies in 1 tablespoon of vinegar and then make it a paste to use further in the recipe. It adds a nice flavor to any Chinese food you prepare.
- Now heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok and add chopped ginger and garlic into it. Saute them till the flavor comes out from them.
- After some time, add chopped onions. As soon as you find the onions become pinkish, add finely chopped cabbage, carrot and capsicum into it.
- Add salt as per your taste and saute the vegetables on a medium flame.
- You need to cover the wok so that the vegetables cook faster. Also, do not forget to saute it in between for approximately 10 minutes.
- When you find that the momos' stuffing is cooked properly, add black pepper powder and mix it well. Take it out of the wok and keep it aside undisturbed to cool down.
- Now take the dough and knead it for more than 2–3 minutes o make it soft. Pinch out small and equal portions from the dough and make small round balls.
- Now roll out each dough ball into a small round shape and make sure to roll them as thin as possible.
- Place 1 tablespoon of stuffing on the center of the circle and start making pleats from one end until you reach another end. Now join all the pleats together at the center and seat all of them at the top. To seal it properly, press and twist it at the center.
- Now it's time for you to take a vegetable steamer and apply oil to it properly. Place the steamer at the top of the to and make sure that it is above the water.
- Once you find that the steam has started to come out of the water, place the momos on the stainer and cover it with a lid.
- Once you find that the momos become transparent, the momos are done. It will take approximately 10 minutes.
- Now in a pan, heat some oil and add some chopped garlic. Saute it for nearly 30 seconds. Then add the steamed momos into the pan along with the garlic and saute it for 1 minute. Now add the paste of dry red chilies and vinegar that you prepared at the beginning of the recipe. Also, add soya sauce and tomato ketchup if needed.
- Take the momos out of the flame and garnish them well with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
