Overheard
at my favorite shop

Enter, Grandpa and four-year-old grandson. Boy: Lollipop! Grandpa: Wait. (finishes shopping) Boy: (Jumping up and down) LOLLIPOP!
Grandpa lifts him up. Kid instantly points at the lollipop jar: LOLLIPOP!
Grandpa: But you have some at home. Kid: Now! Eat Now! Grandpa, smiling: Then I won’t give you the one at home. Kid: Lollipop here.
Amused, Grandpa gets a chocolate lollipop, hands it to the kid.
Shall I open it? Kid: No. Grandpa: But you said you want to eat it now! Kid: No. Home. Grandpa: You could have had the one we have at home. Kid: No. This chocolate. That not. Grandpa: (bursts out laughing). Ok, ok. The two of them wander off, hand in hand, talking.
The persistence of children, their understanding of the power of No, that too with limited vocabulary!
