Overcome One Challenge Every Month and Become Unrecognizable By Next Year

It’s time to level up

We make the mistake of setting too many goals.

You want to become fit, start a successful business, and find the love of your life all at the same time. And you want it all immediately.

This comes with two problems.

  1. Thinking of how you have so much to do makes you want to do nothing.
  2. Even if you do get yourself to act, your energy is flowing in too many directions and you’re too distracted to achieve what you set out for.

But there’s a smart way to get everything you want.

To smash all your goals and level up so hard that you become unrecognizable by next year.

Setting one difficult challenge every month

Here’s how this helps.

  1. You spend the month focusing on one singular thing. You can go all out.
  2. Setting an easy challenge won’t motivate you. But a difficult one will give you enough dopamine to want to overcome it.
  3. You choose your big goals and divide them into 12 small challenges. By the end of the year, you’ve achieved more than you thought was possible.

I’ve almost overcome three challenges this year. And it makes me feel like I’m on top of the world.

Challenge 1 — January: No sugar the whole month

  • Goal: Lose two kgs
  • Status: Achieved

Challenge 2 — February: Start a newsletter

  • Goal: Send out 4 newsletters every month (1x a week)
  • Status: Achieved

Challenge 3 — March: Quit smoking

  • Goal: Reduce stress and feel better
  • Status: Going strong!

I’m not sure what the challenge for April will be yet, but I’m already excited.

This year has shown me I can do anything I put my mind to. And I’m excited to actively work towards my goals and build a better life for myself.

Are you?

Track your progress every day

Sometimes, goals can feel tedious.

One more thing to do, seriously? As if you don’t have enough on your plate.

But what if challenges could be fun? What if you started to enjoy self-improvement?

Turning your goals into a game has some serious benefits.

  • It stops feeling like something you have to do and starts feeling like something you want to do.
  • As with any game, you have fun rewards to look forward to! This helps boost motivation to keep going.
  • You don’t want to feel like a loser, the feeling of a winner is hard to resist so you keep going even if your mind begs you to stop.

Put a big monthly calendar on top of your desk and write down your monthly challenge in big letters on top. Every day you complete your challenge put a big cross on the date.

Now, you wouldn’t dare break that streak, would you?

Don’t punish yourself if you miss a day, but don’t let yourself miss more than a day at once.

Long term benefits

The best part about doing something for a month is you start to form a habit and do it every day effortlessly.

It’s easier to do something every day for the rest of your life once you do it every day for a month. For the simple reason that the month proves you can do it.

Another great reason to pick up monthly challenges is you’ll know when the month is over if this habit is right for you. We’re all different and different things work for us all.

  • Waking up at 5 am every day might work for me, but not for you.
  • You might love a monthly challenge of daily walks but it might make me miserable.

But only when you try out new things will you know what works for you and what doesn’t.

What’re you waiting for?

Some fun challenges you might want to try

Hmm… it’s almost tougher to think of a challenge that excites you than to actually do it.

Don’t worry, I got you.

Maybe try some of these?

  • Quit processed sugar.
  • No alcohol for a month!
  • Writing an article every day.
  • A morning workout every day.
  • Intermittent fast of 16 hours a day.
  • Take yourself for a solo date every week.
  • Eating only home-cooked food for a month.
  • No social media, well that’s difficult but also so rewarding.

Pick something you’ll have to work hard at. But also pick something that gets your blood rushing, that excites you.

It’ll all be so rewarding in the end.

Best of luck!

With love,

K
