Outwork Book Club on “The Magic of Thinking Big”
David Schwartz teaches us that thinking big requires no more effort than thinking small, and if we think big, we allow ourselves to realize our goals, dreams, and desires.

The Outwork Book Club is a book review series that provides the main idea, summary, top quotes, and how to take action.
This book comes as the thumber one book recommendation from Tim Ferris. As the author of the 4-Hour Work Week, other bestsellers, and host of my favorite podcast, it should be expected that I would take the time to read and explore this book as a model for self-improvement.

Main Idea: Why You Should Think Big
The key to success is thinking big. Big goals and dreams require the same amount of energy as small goals and little dreams. Why not think big? Aim for more, and you’ll surpass the expectations of everyone around you, including yourself.

Thinking big is what gets you to start taking action. Success relies most on one thing: making successful action a habit.
The act of doing to get into the habit of achievement. The power of believing that you can accomplish more. According to Schwartz, the magic is actually in how we do everyday things. It is about our perspective of daily interactions and how we use our thoughts to provoke successful action. That is why thought management remains a critical message throughout the book.

The Power of Belief
Believe you can succeed, and you will.
All forms of success start with belief. You cannot go through the motions and succeed. You have to believe that you will get it done before it happens.
It is a simple and fundamental rule, but so many people truly do not understand the power of belief. This book was first published in 1959, but the message that success leads to winning will forever remain a true statement.

And success starts with belief.
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” — Matthew 17:20
With a strong sense of belief, you will trigger a chain of reactions of positive thoughts in your mind. The law of attraction is very clear on what happens next: like attracts like.
Your mind and body will start to move in the direction of whatever you want to accomplish. Forward momentum is hard to stop once it gets rolling.
Your strong belief in yourself will make other people believe in your abilities. Other people will place their confidence in you. This is why charismatic leaders are so influential; they often build within themselves an unshakable sense of belief in their abilities and their vision.
How to Take Action: Develop the Power of Belief
Your mind is a thought factory. Whatever you put into your mind is what your mind will become.
The power of belief is about cultivating a mindset focused on success and what it takes to build that success. The goal is to become singularly focused, directing your thoughts toward the desired outcome.
1. Think success, not failure. When you compete, when you strive to succeed at something, think, “I’m equal to the best,” believe “I will win,” always let the master thought, “I will succeed,” dominate your thinking process.
2. Remind yourself that you are better than you think. Too many people think negatively of themselves and end up settling with mediocrity because that is what they feel they deserve. Successful people are just ordinary people that have developed a belief in themselves and what they can do. Success and achievement require many things, but it does not require superior intellect, money, genetics, or a natural ability to grasp certain things. It requires belief and work. Do not ever sell yourself short on what you want to do or accomplish.
3. Believe in big things. Remember, it takes the same effort to believe in small things. So believe in big things. I do not have a world-class education or even a “kind of okay” education, but I believe I will someday become a Ph.D. It is the highest level of education one can achieve in our society. It is important to me because it is a belief in a big thing.
4. Create a mantra or power statement. When staying positive and believing in yourself becomes difficult, use a mantra or power statement to help redirect your thoughts. It could be as simple as saying, “I made it this far, and I will keep going,” or “I am stronger than I think.” If you connect it to your purpose or life’s task, it will become a way to fan the flames. Your “burn” will keep you lit, despite the circumstances that you face.
