Outside the Restaurant
A Poem
I met him one night Outside the restaurant, The one with red awnings With white trim on the top.
I was late for something, But somehow, I forgot what. It was a beautiful night.
He was sitting in a corner, Reading some Hemingway, I understood nothing, But always had something to say.
He was like a diamond in the rough, A magnet that pulled me his way, On this beautiful night.
We’re older now, living down the water. Happy now, with music dancing on moonlight. We used to dream about taking a Stone Pony ride, On a summer night.
I was innocent once, playing with the other kids all day, Stopping for a slice at Spumoni Gardens on the way, Playing till it was dark, dancing with the fireflies and just enjoying the night.
But I’m older now, living down by the water, Happy now, with music dancing on moonlight, I used to dream about writing words, it’s all that I really want, And one more magical night, outside the restaurant.
