Is Reality Real
Outside My Sleeping Room
A Halloween haiku sonnet

scritching and scratching scraping on my windowpane angry insistence
tingling and jangling unbearable night noises up and down my spine
screeching and howling revenant shrieks and bellows harsh cacophony
ear-splitting ruckus right outside my sleeping room I dive ‘neath my sheets
suddenly, the noise ceases replaced by a shy meow

The basic premise of the haiku sonnet is simple: 4 3-liner haiku plus a couplet of either 5 or 7 syllables adds up to 14 lines, the same number of lines found in a sonnet. Robert Lee Brewer in Writer’s Digest
I am not brave enough yet to compose a traditional sonnet, but when I discovered the haiku sonnet, I was ecstatic! No rhymes, and I get to count syllables! My cup of tea! I hope you enjoy this silly little detour for the “Is Reality Real” Paper Poetry prompt for October. I thought it might be nice to end October on a lighter note. 🎃🍁🎃🍁🎃
