Our Thoughts Have Power Over Only One

Guest Prompt Week 2, Day 1: Sujona Chatterjee — We are not our thoughts

I read today’s prompt and my mind ran in several directions at once. My first thought was that if a thought remains just a thought and is never acted on it can only affect the person that created it. It can do some good or great harm. I totally agree with Sujona’s premise.

One of our former presidents of the United States gave a famous interview where he admitted having lusted in his heart. Jimmy Carter might have been too kind-hearted to be president. He is best known for the long and memorable life he has lived after his four years as president. From when he left the White House and over forty years into his nineties, he helped build homes for people with needs in his work with Habitat for Humanity. He has authored thirty books, some of which were poetry. He may have lusted in his heart but he has been married for seventy-five years to his wife Rosalynn according to Wikipedia. Jimmy Carter will be known for his goodness, his work for peace, his actions, and not for his thoughts he never had to admit he had and did not act on.
