Our Encounter With Migrants

They Asked For Help

Living along the border, we see migrants all over the city. They are walking the streets, panhandling at intersections along Interstate 10, and just hanging out near their hotels.

The shelters here are filled to over-capacity. Because of that, the city is housing the migrants in local hotels.

We regularly frequent a restaurant that is located next to one of these hotels. The restaurant and hotel share the same parking lot. This restaurant is a lot like a Denny’s or an IHOP. They are known for their all-day breakfasts.

We see several groups of migrants hanging outside of the hotel every time we go eat. They have never spoken to us or asked us for money. They just stare at us.

The last time we went was last Friday night. The migrants were there as usual and my daughter, my cousin, and I went in, while my husband was getting something from the car.

I looked through the window and saw a couple of migrant women talking with my husband. He was out there for a while.

While we were inside waiting, I asked the server, who was a personal friend of ours, if the migrants ever caused any problems for the restaurant. She said no, not until today.

She said they had just called the police because one of the little migrant boys went into the restaurant and stole the tips off the tables.

When my husband came in, he said that some of the migrant ladies had asked him to call a Taxi for them. He called the Taxi company and they told my husband they wouldn’t come unless the migrants had cash. The ladies told him they did have the cash, even though he never saw it. They also requested 2 Taxis because they were a large group.

My husband came in and we ordered our food. While we were eating, we saw the Taxis arrive and pick up the migrants. A few minutes after they left, the police arrived. Because the migrants were gone, no police report was made.

My husband never found out where the migrants were headed. They only had GPS coordinates, and it seemed that they themselves didn’t know where they were going either. Sounds very mysterious to me.
