OSRS Shattered Relics League — First Look
What skills should you train first to succeed in Shattered Relics?

Old School RuneScape’s third league has officially come out on January 19, and players are already achieving Leagues Firsts in less than 24 hours. Shattered Relics League is the third league in OSRS, a seasonal event where players are challenged with content, skill, and boss restrictions for rewards that carry off into the main game.
What is an OSRS league?
Players are basically ironmen: they start without any items or stats in a different world, which won’t affect permanent OSRS. What happens in a league stays in that league, meaning that any rewards or progress doesn’t carry over to the next except for league-to-league rewards. Shattered Relics will only last from January 19, 2022, to March 2, 2022, meaning it’s the shortest league ever, available only for six weeks. Shattered Relics will revolve around adventure, collection, and expanding on the lore of the league game mode.
What skills are available?
Accounts will only start with three unlocked skills chosen by the game. All players will begin with the same skills. These skills will be Fishing, Defense, Thieving, and combat skill. Without cooking unlocked from the get-go, players should prioritize cooking and prayer as soon as they can earn enough points to unlock them.
The Shattered Relics League is the first one to expand on the lore of the game mode. The lore explains how relics have been shattered into small fragments with buffs and scattered throughout Gielinor by The Sage. Players start right out of Catherby, besides The Sage, and there are way stones placed in locations throughout the world that allow players to traverse for free.
What’s new in Shattered Relics?
Minigames and bosses must be unlocked with special points got in the gameplay.
Wilderness bosses are open season, but raids will be locked. This is so players can strategize and develop their paths of skilling.
The exp rate in Leagues 3 will be five times the usual rate, just like in previous leagues, so don’t worry about not having enough time to level up your character. Given the temporary trait of leagues, it takes considerably less time to do so when compared to the main game. Players unlock their skills by using the Sage’s Renown, which also allows them to unlock bosses.
The relic fragments scattered throughout the map contain their own buffs, but they can also create powerful effects. Fragments have one base effect and 2 set effects which can be combined with similar set effects for an even stronger buff. Relic fragments can also be leveled as if they were a skill simply by equipping them while gaining any experience, buffing their already useful boons to increased levels.
These effects can be great for leveling up attack skills, such as the Unholy Warrior, Wizard, and Ranger fragments. These increase melee, magic, or ranged accuracy by a percentage when you have 0 prayer points left.
Another, called Slay All Day, helps you for a set amount of hit points upon killing a slayer monster on task. Skillers aren’t left behind either, with the Chef’s Catch relic fragment increasing the chance that any fish caught are cooked while also granting experience.
Since the league is played in a different world, players can’t be on the permanent OSRS while also playing Shattered Relics, and since rewards don’t carry over, it might seem like a waste of skilling time for some.
A world with infinite run energy multiplied skills and trade restrictions is an appealing challenge for many players.
A first look
When you first log in to the Shattered Relic world, you’ll land in a crowded beginner’s spot right outside Catherby, with people dancing all around you.
You’re asked to select a combat skill. Attack is difficult to train without Strength, which itself is 20 points. Ranged and Magic are optimal choices when starting out.
Once you choose a combat skill, you’ll obtain a relic that represents your combat skill. For example, a Magic user will receive the Arcane Conduit relic, which at Level 1 provides a 40% chance for Magic runes & weapon charges to be saved. Then, you’ll receive a fragment with a boon.
After that, you’re given tasks to level up your skills and start the actual fun.
Shattered Relics will also bring back the League Firsts board, where players compete with each other by completing tasks separate from league tasks. These are restricted to single-player or team modes and can include defeating bosses, obtaining a pet, or being the first level 99 in a skill.
When a player completes a League First, their name is permanently recorded on the League Firsts Board which you can find in the Lumbridge Castle courtyard.
Most rewards from leagues into the permanent game mode are cosmetic, though they add up with all the rewards from previously completed leagues.
In less than 24 hours, all Leagues Firsts were achieved by players.
One of the best ways to start out in the league is by stacking gold pieces. At least 10,000 gold can be found inside of the Stronghold of Security by progressing through each of the levels inside. On top of that, this counts as a task to provide points for league unlocks.
Quests are also great ways to gain quick levels and unlocks to increase your character’s level. Some recommended quests include Fishing Contest, Hazeel Cult, and Monk’s Friend, given the massive XP gains players will get from completing them.

What are the rewards?
The weapon Variety Pack is among the most exciting rewards available for Shattered Relics. This is basically a skin for six of the most commonly used high-level items in OSRS: the Abyssal Whip, Abyssal Tentacle, Rune Crossbow, God Books & Mystic Robes. It also comes with an ornament kit to override the design of the dwarf multi cannon.
If you want to rehash the old-school look of your character for a more mystic visage, these rewards will appeal to you. They’ll also include cosmetic changes to the Void & Elite Void sets.
Players can also obtain league trophies to be displayed in the League Hall in their POH.
Final words
OSRS Leagues are a fantastic game mode to explore OSRS through different lenses and restrictions, forcing players to develop unique strategies, prioritize some skills over others and join the race for resources.
Shattered Relics League can be a fun way to return to the game if you haven’t been active in a while.
