Oscars — Fashion Review: Part III
The “Wear It or Trash It” segment

While I like the pink color, Grande’s ensemble is a huge TRASH IT. Why? The dress felt too voluminous for Grande’s petite figure. A pink blob had attached itself to Grande’s body. As I watched her on screen, I thought of newly spun cotton candy or the inside of a parachute after it had deployed. Grande made a grand entrance — mission accomplished.
However, Grande’s “Wicked” co-star, Cynthia Erivo was divine in a green leather ensemble. The dress hugged her curves in all the right places. It was the perfect outfit as the season transitioned from winter to spring. The ruffles going down the back of the dress were the icing on the cake. This outfit was a WEAR IT.

Melissa McCarthy’s slim-down figure was overshadowed by the hideous combo of red and fuchsia she wore to the Oscars. Whoever told McCarthy that red and fuchsia go together lied to her! Red and fuchsia are not a great color combination. They are two strong colors vying for attention in McCarthy’s gown. When I saw her present, she was uncomfortable in the dress. I’m sorry, McCarthy the outfit is a TRASH IT.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph gave an emotional acceptance speech at the 2024 Oscars. Her raw, truth brought many in attendance to tears. As I watched her, I saw a lot of myself in her. She was a Black woman trying to survive the shark-infested world of disappointment known as Hollywood. Randolph had achieved something she thought was unattainable and sent a message to the world — It just took being herself to achieve her dreams. With that said, her gown was epic. I loved the color and the sheerness of the fabric. It was shimmery and shining. The ruffled sleeves were also a nice touch. Randolph looked like a Hollywood star and the Oscar trophy was the final stamp of approval. The dress is a WEAR-IT.
I usually don’t comment on menswear, but I had to make an exception for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I don’t know who styled him, but they need to go. First off, the suit was ill-fitting. The stylist did not consider the man’s curves (i.e. his muscles). In addition, did someone not iron this suit before he put it on? It is too wrinkled! The Rock looks like his clothes were pulled from under a rock. Sorry, sexy — this is a TRASH IT!
Celebrities need to do better. They have the money. If they can’t wear stylish clothes to a major event like the Oscars, stay home and watch it on TV like the rest of us!
