Orange Reflections

Why yes, I am glad it’s October

Photo by Darby P. on Unsplash

I walk along the autumn lane and in the burnished orange leaves, gently sighing on rainy trees, I feel the promise of warming flames from future winter fires and cozy candlelight. In jack-o-lanterns and mounds of mums perched on porches I can see the reflections of the summer Sun, smiling down on hungry fields that cultivated His attention. When Monarchs move across the sky their wings remind me, as they fly, of zinnias and orange milkweed which offered nectar for butterflies to feed. In the mirror, my red-gold hair always silently declares that I was born in the fall, and, perhaps because I was, it is my favorite season of all.

I love October, not only because it is the month of my birth and that of my youngest child, but also because in October, you can feel the genuine arrival of fall. I love Halloween, and yes, all of the orange that graces our Northern Hemisphere trees and pumpkins.
