Opulent October!

Autumn-sun-soaked doggo; old-fashioned garden flowers; and it’s time for the Scarf Gang!

At this time of year, some of the more ‘old-fashioned’ garden flowers come into their own. Like the ‘wild’ fuchsia above.

All around the neighbourhood, clues as to what month we’re in are starting to appear …

Blue Anise Sage (Salvia) on the left above and Michaelmas daisies (aster) on the right above — lovely, traditional garden flowers. I also particularly like blue blossoms so am naturally drawn to them.

In the middle — none of these new-fangled types with their pink berries and their variegated leaves — oh, no, good old faithful traditional cotoneaster bearing densely packed red berries above solid green little leaves — does its hedging job very well. Lovely.

Not quite so expected are high-heeled, pink sandals on a wall for anyone to take if they want them. (Eek! I’d fall off them if I attempted to wear such high heels.) Pink cosmos on the right, though, gives the street a lift — that particular pink is so otherworldly it looks as if the whole flower will lift off its stalk and float away.

Above is a yucca-type palm tree — it still looks odd to see palm trees casually growing in the city streets as if they belong there, but they do seem to do well.

PupperJack made sure this yellow sign that had been attached to this tree knew exactly what he thought of it. It certainly knew its place by the time he was finished. I’m thinking of getting ear plugs to keep his outraged shrieks from shattering my ear drums.

But then he did approve of these bricks being used to build a new wall — they’re all autumn-coloured bricks and they fit their environment.

He was exhausted by all the disapproval and then approval, though, and had to sit quietly in the sun for a while when we got home to regain his serenity.
