Oops, I Did It Again! I Doubled My Earnings Of December With 2/3rds of February To Go
I'll show you the eight steps I followed.
Yep! That's right. Last month, I told you how I had doubled my December earnings with 1/3rd of January yet to be done. By February 10th, I've reached my 2X goal again. Here is my breakdown.
- December is my benchmark; X
- By January 20th, I reached 2X
- By January 31st, I got 4X
- By February 10th, I again reached 2X, and as of February 14th, I'm closing in on 3X.
On January 7, 2022, I published an essay entitled "8 Ways To Boost Your Writing Presence" (linked below), in which I outlined an eight-step program to build my presence in this venue.
Although I have tweaked some aspects, I am still following my 8-step plan to boost my writing presence.
Step #1: Writing is essential.
I can not emphasize enough writing is essential. If you desire to be a writer, then write. My goal is to publish once a week.
I'm not attempting to earn a living by writing. I have a nice pension, and I work part-time. I write and publish because it pleases me. It would be best if you decided why you write and what you want to get out of it. There is nothing wrong with writing for pleasure, and there is nothing wrong with writing to produce an income. If you are attempting to earn a living from writing, then put in the time and effort to work your writing as a job.
Step #2: Followers are essential.
Building a following is essential. Jan Sebastian describes an excellent method of getting followers in "The Medium $500 a month quest. We got this! Here are some tools." Not only is building a following important, building a following of paying members who actively engage with your writing is essential. Dan J describes his approach in "My Account Has Become a Solid Passive Income."
Step #2b: The right kind of followers is essential.
I am looking to build a following of full-paying members that read and engage.
Jan recommends you focus on following those folks that clap. I have modified my farming of prospective followers. It takes only 15 seconds to clap 50 times. A reader doesn't have to read a story to clap. I need followers that have a history of reading. I believe those people that highlight and comment are likely to be those people that read stories.
- I start with reading an article by a paying member.
- I read, highlight, clap, and comment telling the author I am following them and encouraging them to look at some of my stories.
- Then, I click on the profile of another paying member that also commented.
- I start the cycle again with #1.
A full-paying member is identified by a green circle surrounding their circular picture.
By following this farming method, I get a refollow rate of 80%.
Step 3: How you read your followers is essential.
Your goal is to engage in mutual support with your followers, so your monthly fee supports them, and their monthly fee supports you. Read, highlight, clap, and comment. The important thing is to give your colleague the proper reading time. One way of ensuring you are not rushing through their story is to highlight passages that resonate with you. Encouragement is so important.
Step 4: Become a full member.
If you would like me to read, clap, highlight, and comment on your stories, please feel free to use this [link] to become a full member of Medium. By being a full member, you will financially support other writers and me.
I may follow a free member, but I only subscribe to paying members. I have a dedicated email account for this venue. Every day, my followers send their stories by email for me to read. I rarely look at the "RECOMMENDED FOR YOU" feed.
5. Get an email from me every time I publish.
If you would like the opportunity to read, clap, highlight, and comment on my stories, then use this [LINK].
Step 6: Create a dedicated email account.
When you subscribe to receive your followers' stories by email, you will get many of them. You'll find that some writers submit as many as five or six articles a day. Having a dedicated email for stories keeps my regular email inbox clean. I also can quickly scroll through the writers to determine what order I want to read stories.
Step 7: Periodically review who has clapped for your stories.
Look at who has clapped, highlighted, or commented on your stories. Follow them and invite them to follow you. After all, all of you already know each other.
Step 8: At the end of each of my stories, I provide links to my most recent stories.
