Only Fans? Why The Hate From Men?

OnlyFans.com has been getting a lot of attention of late as a way for men and women, mostly women, to supplement their income or to make it a primary salary, which has been important during the pandemic.
OnlyFans is similar to Instagram but users pay to subscribe to be able to access creators’ feeds. This has opened up a way for women to show naked pictures and home-grown porn that is said to “empower women”
Subscribers, who are mainly men, pay on average between £5 to £20 a month to direct message women and pay them tips to get personalised videos or photos, ‘depending on the individual sexual tastes.’
OnlyFans has roughly around 17 million users who have received around £119 million since its launch. The content provider keeps 80% whilst OnlyFans keeps 20% to earn, you just add your bank account to the app and start uploading content.
Top earning women have been estimated to earn up to £30,000 a month from monthly subscribers and tips.
This has enraged groups of men, with some going as far as leaking the women’s pictures and videos online in hopes of affecting their income.
So why the rage from men? Contrary to popular feminist beliefs, it’s not because most men feel entitled to women’s bodies, but more about the fact that some women paint an oppressed narrative whilst failing to acknowledge the power and privilege they do have.
What’s that privilege? The power and privilege are that, no matter how big a failure a woman is in life, or if she has any talent at all, she can fall back on her looks and body and get money and favours from men, whereas a male doesn’t always have this privilege. If it can be regarded as a privilege.
OnlyFans seems like a built-in safety net for women, a safety net that the average man doesn’t have. This has made some men angry, when they hear women say, “how hard life is”, Some women even act like they have no other way to make money, when they have turned down regular jobs because selling their body is more lucrative.
Then there are the vulnerable men who seek connection and intimacy through the website, who are being said to be exploited by these women.
What I think, and that some of the men are missing is, yes women can rely on their bodies as a last resort to make money, but the majority who do, are often very vulnerable and see no other way.
OnlyFans is a business and like any other business, women have to have solid business skills to promote and market their brand, and then they have to make themselves relevant within a sea of competition.
If a woman wants to make herself relevant and grab the attention of her fans she may find herself doing more and more, for less and less, with those things becoming more and more degrading.
Then there are the men that these women entertain, who can also be very “unbalanced” with some even becoming so obsessed that they stalk their object of affection.
The countless memes and newspapers articles highlighting women making big money, are the women in the top 1%.
The average a woman makes on OnlyFans is £160 a month, money which is hardly life-changing.
“Whilst the money pours into OnlyFans and young, broke and often vulnerable women are drawn to this sanitised version of prostitution, men that subscribe have found yet another platform to treat women as little more than their personalised sex toy” Julie Bindel
My personal opinion is the types of men who hate on these women, are the types of men who hate on anyone more successful than they are, man or woman, they see the results, but fail to see the hard work behind the results, and think the world owes them something.
