Summary

The undefined website presents a writing prompt inspired by Blondie's song "One Way or Another" for February's open-ended invitation to write for Tantalizing Tales, encouraging writers to explore various genres with an optional prompt that has no time limit.

Abstract

The undefined website is calling for submissions from writers, offering a new writing prompt based on the song "One Way or Another" by Blondie. This initiative, which began in May 2022 with the theme of trains, has seen a positive response with 93 stories published from 8 original prompts. The website invites writers to use the phrase "One way or another, I’m going to find you…" in their stories, emphasizing that while erotic fiction is welcomed, they also encourage other genres such as sci-fi, supernatural, crime, thriller, dystopian, historical, humor, and fairy tale retellings, with sex being an integral part of the narrative. The publication prioritizes prompt stories and features them in their newsletter, suggesting that writers include the prompt theme in their submission to ensure proper categorization. The website also highlights the work of new writers and featured writers from December and January, and encourages readers to engage with the content by sharing on social media, clapping for the stories, and leaving positive comments.

Opinions

  • The website values the diversity of genres beyond erotic fiction, indicating a preference for stories where sex is a significant but not exclusive element of the plot.
  • There is an emphasis on the community aspect of the publication, with encouragement for readers to support writers through social media shares, claps, and comments.
  • The editors are committed to assisting new writers by offering help in polishing their stories, suggesting a supportive environment for emerging talent.
  • The publication of a variety of stories in response to previous prompts shows an appreciation for the writers' interpretations and a successful engagement with the writing community.
  • The mention of the song "One Way or Another" as a source of inspiration implies a desire to evoke a certain mood or theme in the submitted stories, possibly exploring themes of pursuit, obsession, or unresolved feelings.

“One Way or Another…”

Writing Prompt #9: February’s Open Ended Invitation to Write for Us…

“I know you’re in there, don’t ignore me Basia.”

She could hear the snarl in Kurt’s voice as he shouted through the letterbox. Even with the barrier of a deadlocked door and the couch she crouched behind, Basia didn’t feel safe from his reach.

Somehow, he’d found her again. Basia had quit her apartment two weeks ago and begged a lift from a friend to ferry her to her Mother’s flat in this depressing concrete block. She’d hoped that leaving her clapped out car behind would fool him and buy her time. Had Neil been pressured into revealing where he’d driven her?

Kurt must’ve aimed an angry kick at her mother’s door, because the impact resounded and the hinges groaned. Basia gritted her teeth, hugging herself to quell her terrified shaking.

“You’re all alone, you’ve got no money.”

She pulled out her phone and sat staring at Kurt’s latest text.

He was right, of course. Unless she involved the police, he had her caught like a rat in a trap.

She should have ditched her mobile, she scolded herself. Kurt most likely installed a tracking app. By keeping it, she also allowed him to still hurt her with his words, but she couldn’t afford to replace it.

Three dots appeared in a bubble, Kurt was texting:

“One way, or another, I’m going to find you, bitch! You belong to me.”

May More 💜 Tales kicked off the idea for providing our writers with prompts in May 2022 and our first was Trains. Since then, the up-take of prompt stories has been great — 93 stories published so far in response to the 8 original prompts we offered.

We’ve suggested just one idea per month to inspire writers, and gave these optional prompts no time limit. Then we decided that wiping the slate clean would keep things fresh. January 2023 was the final opportunity to respond to the prompts which had gone before.

Never fret, we’ve found new ways to tease out inspiration, to spark really tantalizing fiction from our established writers, and coax new creatives to join in and submit stories.

New Prompt for February

Maybe you know the classic song by Blondie, “One Way or Another …” I’ve sung along and always thought it was about teenage attraction, or a partner who refuses to be dumped. It could be about lost love, but Wikipedia says there was a more disturbing tinge to the lyrics. A reason Debbie Harry, the iconic singer, delivers them with a snarl in her voice.

New prompt: use the phrase: “One way or another, I’m going to find you …in your story.

We are happy to host erotic fiction, but at Tantalizing Tales we encourage creation of stories in other genres: sci-fi * supernatural * crime * thriller * dystopian * historical * humour* fairy tale retelling * — which are plot based and have sex as an explosive part of the tale.

On Saturdays and Sundays, when people usually have more time to read, we may publish two feature length stories, instead of a single one. We prefer giving each piece a time to ‘feature’.

Prompt stories earn a mention in the newsletter after they have been published — to raise their profile with our subscribers. (Do you subscribe? You help us become a destination for quality fiction if you do)

  • Submit something to us which incorporates the above phrase; full length stories or flash fiction. We will prioritise any prompt stories and publish as soon as we can.
  • When submitting your story to Tantalizing Tales, please let us know it’s a response to a prompt by including it as a topic or adding the theme to your kicker or subtitle.
  • You’re welcome to post your prompt story on another publication. Just link it back to this newsletter and let me or May More 💜 Tales know, so we can mention it in our next newsletter.
  • Our team of editors and I look forward to receiving your prompt stories :-)

We had a birthday this month — read this post for all the special stories our editors wrote. If you’d like to assist our promotion via social media, use the ‘tweet’ function in Medium to share a link to the story you’ve just enjoyed. Please give the writer plenty of claps (50 is great) and perhaps leave a positive comment.
