One of the best series I watched in Netflix
A very in-depth explanation on few of the most prominent topics of the world.
I have just finished a series in Netflix which I felt a very good and well presented series. Hence, I thought I would share with you. The name of the series is “History 101”.
History 101 was released on May 22, 2020, on Netflix. It covers some of the most significant events and topics happened in the history of mankind. Most importantly, the content maker makes sure that the topics he picked up have had extensive impact on mankind in last few decades. I learned many interesting and unknown facts from the episodes. The maker did extremely good in their research and study. There are 10 episodes out of which 9th episode was removed by Netflix after outrage from members of the Haitian-American community. Let me touch upon each of the episodes.
Episode 1: Fast Food
This episode is a beautiful explanation of advantage and disadvantage of fast food industry. It clearly shows when it started from , how much impact it created in the lives of current human civilization. Viewers have to decide whether the fast food consumption is good for their health or has any detrimental effects.
Episode 2: The Space Race
Many interesting facts you will see here like , how the race for space started with USSR and US and how other countries participated in the movement. Science has achieved tremendous progress in the field of space. Recently, we all have witnessed SpaceX’s historic 1st astronaut launch for NASA.
Episode 3: The Rise of China
China is THE big thing that happened in the recent world history. The way China became the world leader in manufacturing domain is worth watching. The episode clearly shows their rise and struggle of China to become global manufacturing hub of the world.
Episode 4: Plastics
The innovation of plastic material undoubtedly changed the human life what history witnessed before. This episodes explains some of the astounding and unbelievable facts on how today’s world has gone deep rooted in using the plastics and how much it is affecting the environment .
Episode 5: Oil and the Middle East
We all know how the world is dependent on oil as it is being used in many sectors of life. The rise and fall of oil land, the fight for oil have filled the world history with some deadly and devastating events in the past. You will get to see some real footage of the past events and their consequences.
Episode 6: Robots
Robots and eventually Artificial Intelligence is the IN thing in the world. Most of the digital platform in today’s world is based on AI. The episodes shows the history of robots and the countries which were pioneer in developing them, their fights of job with human labor.
Episode 7: Feminism
I got to learn many interesting facts about the on going events in modern world. More we know about the real reason, history about the topic, better we develop a good understanding .
Episode 8: Nuclear Power
The ongoing cold competition over nuclear power among the countries is well known to all of us. But I learnt how the nuclear power energy started getting developed after world war II.
Episode 9: AIDS
I could not watch the episode as it was removed by Netflix.
Episode 10: Genetics
Recent development of scientific advancement over the “gene” domain has bee remarkable. Biologists have gone far ahead with their research and development with the coding of gene and its implementation in human lives.
Main highlights of the series:
- Short duration (around 20 mins)
- Informative
- Strong background study
- Explanation with facts and data
- Descriptive figures with images, graphs and diagrams.
- Relative comparison which makes it simple to understand
- Old archive footage
The interesting fact, I found after watching the documentary series is that it does not impose any opinion of its own. It leaves the viewers to think which is right and wrong and also makes viewers to think about the events which happened in the history whether they were needed or could have been avoided. All the episodes starts with a question mark and ends with igniting curiosity in viewer’s mind.
