One simple mistake decreased my reads by 50% and slashed my earnings by 1/3.

This month has been a real rollercoaster, with stats going up and down.

But this Saturday, I had a real dip: In a matter of a day, my stats went from 67 reads to 35 reads, and my earnings went from the usual $10.00 to below $3.00.

How did I manage to offend the Medium algorithm?

I took a 24-hour break from Medium. No posting, no engagement, nada.

It might have been super refreshing for me, but the Medium algorithm was not kind. The machine is ruthless; you miss one day, and you’re out!

So, what can we learn from this?

This experience shows that Medium monitors how much you engage and how much time you spend on the platform.

Even though I missed out on a lot of traffic, I don’t regret the decision to take a break for a second.
