Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Freestyle”

It’s the perfect bug-eyed insect crossing.

The praying mantis is the grandest living statue of the insect kingdom. I feel blessed when summer comes rolling around and the mantis monastery doors open onto my green space. They are fierce fighters in the insect order and spiritual symbols in human culture. The mantis in my photo was both fearless and friendly during our brief encounters. What a marvelous world to produce such an awe-inspiring creature of small stature and oversized spiritual presence. Such encounters remind me that all creatures great and very small deserve our faithful vigilance in the preservation of this planet.
