One Behavior To Take if You Don’t Know How To Rebrand Yourself

Goals change

It took me more than a year to prepare myself to become a public speaker. I attended a course on how to make a webinar, a course on public speaking, and a course on writing better English. I gave free webinars, which helped me become more confident. Despite my anxiety, I felt that I was ready.

Then, I contacted some associations who told me they were interested in my work, until I asked for money. Maybe it was due to the challenging time of our life, or to the common habit of having people give a lot of work for free before they are being paid, but their answers were vague, and I felt rejected. I felt that all the words about my great results and useful insights were empty words. I thought that if my work had value, I needed to be paid.

It was an upsetting experience because I felt betrayed. All the energy and money I invested during the first year of the pandemic seemed to be lost. I was lucky enough to have people near me help me to feel strong and not to give up.

Then I decided to quit, or at least that’s the only thing I could do at that time. I ran away from everything and isolated myself. I went on with my other projects, but not with this one. I realized I needed time to think about my actions, and their results. This experience was useful, and it helped me realize what I needed to do.

It is hard to know what you want to do and who you are all the time. Therefore, if you need to improve at work, and you don’t know how to rebrand or what to do next, there’s one useful thing you can do: unbrand first.

Just press pause and step away. Disappear, so that nobody knows what happened to you. To better clarify your situation, try to get rid of the things that you don’t want to do or want to become, and you will have more chances of becoming what you want to be.

While you take your time, you might feel invigorated and desirous to work on the same project, or on a new one. You will recall your experience and reconsider the relationships you had. You might decide to contact the same persons again, or other people to work for, and pursue a new goal.

In fact, changing your goals is not wrong, if they are no longer suitable for you. It’s just a very useful way of rebranding and creating a new identity. It’s a way to find renewed energy and be happier about yourself.
