I first discovered Medium as a reader. The articles available impressed me with their quality as well as variety. After expressing my interest in a few topics, there was always a bumper crop from which to choose my free reads.

Shortly thereafter I was tempted to join up as a writer by a friend on a publication that no longer exists, but the post I wrote for them — an opinion piece — still remains. What I write on a more regular basis, is fiction. I love the way that Medium allows me the opportunity to wear different “hats” for my writing. Fiction is my first love, and I’ve experimented with different genres much more since I joined.

I have a passion for stories told in the fairy tale style. Broadly drawn characters, trickery, and magic is used to influence outcomes, sometimes I’ve sometimes used the traditional plot to shape my retelling and sometimes written new:

I recently tried my hand at introducing more magic — and more story — into my writing by creating a tale told in 12 parts. It moves between the mortal world and the land of faery. I researched traditional magic, myths, and legends and wove these elements into a story of star-crossed lovers.

I’ve been writing erotica since 2016, it was how I discovered I had stories to share that people were keen to read, and stories with erotic scenes continues to be how people find me on Medium. There are several quality magazines that welcome this genre - I hope Medium will continue to support them and their readership.

I regularly write for my own publication Tantalizing Tales (founded by myself and May More). We feature only stories that grab the reader’s attention and hold it until the end. It’s become a home for sexy fiction, but hosting mystery and supernatural tales are equally important. Here’s one comprising 4 parts, each episode standing alone is both ghostly and sensual.

A fairly new publication on Medium is Redemption, and it’s set to become the destination for the fiction that I’ve written which is darker. I’ve long been fascinated by taboo topics and it presents a great opportunity to write more shocking scenes and grisly storylines.

I enjoy setting the scene with my stories, I’m a bit of a ‘details’ person. Although longer form stories often suit my style I can be brief. On Tantalizing Tales we feature ‘Micro-Fiction’ on Mondays, because a short flash is sometimes what’s needed.

Only recently have I published fiction without sex under my pen name Posy Churchgate, but it’s been liberating to create and share other genres with a wider readership. I’m now learning to write in some of the categories that I love to read. It’s heartening to find there is reader interest — that this leopard can change its spots!

People discussing the craft of writing often say write what you know. Plenty of my stories are pure fantasy, but if I base them in a setting or on a character I know well in person, that authenticity really anchors the story, giving it resonance with my readers. This fiction, which spans 4 episodes, is one such piece. I drew on a very personal experience for my hospital scenes and composing this moving story proved quite cathartic.

Last December I listened to A Christmas Carol (Audible) bringing Dickens’ wonderful story to life. His deftly drawn locations and characters were awe-inspiring. It’s a tale with which most of us are familiar, having been adapted so many times. My idea: a modern, kink-themed version that features a female ‘Scrooge’. It’s my eleventh recommendation to you, and I hope you’ll follow the links to read the subsequent humorous episodes written by my co-collaborators Nero J. Black & May More.

I was tagged to write my Top Fiction, its inspiration came from Paul Mansfield. I’d be fascinated to read similar pieces by Jupiter Grant The Quiet Man. Asrai Devin Patricia Ray Emma Manzi
