Once Upon a Bar

A poem about a chance encounter

Photo by Sérgio Alves Santos on Unsplash

Following thoughts from dusk to light, I remember you on that debut night

before your name was asked or given, a connection on that breakthrough hi.

A future was not the point of talk as we drank and flirted until last call

I drank bourbon, the beer was yours. We shared scotch and the song before

marriage, kids, mortgage, fights — but I wish again for something right.

So when you whisper love, it delights in echoes of déjà vu this night.
